11 Spiritual Wellness Principles the Modern World Wistfully Forgot

Whether you are a seasoned seeker or new to walking the spiritual path, anchoring in on core principles offers a base to return to when the magic feels distant or when practices grow mundane. No amount of healing crystals or positive affirmations can move the fountain’s waters if it’s not rooted in faith and truth. While each modality has its medicine, there is a simple truth that requires no external tool when we return home to ourselves. May these principles offer guidance in living from our hearts to lead in spiritual wellness, emotional intelligence, inner peace, fulfillment, and authentic connection with ourselves, our community, and the divine nature around us. Spend time with your spiritual core It’s often easier said than done, but spending time with ourselves can restore our spiritual wellness in ways that other modalities can’t. While there are endless options for spiritual practices if the connection with your spiritual core is lacking, you are just going through the motions. I like to think of it as driving a car. You might know how to operate the functions, but you will ultimately burn out if you don’t know where to get gas. So, what does spending time with

How to Awaken Your Mysterious Heart the Sufi Way

I was born near New York City and grew up in a Catholic working-class family, and had a strong interest in spirituality even before I knew what spirituality really was. In my university years, I began to study the Far Eastern traditions, particularly Buddhism, and I studied Sanskrit for a few years. That was my entry into the subject of consciousness because it was really consciousness and human development that I was interested in, more than religion in the conventional sense of the word. I see Sufism as being a discipline of human development through love, through the awakening and purification of the heart, which is the core knowing of the human being, the fundamental cognitive instrument that we have. So what to do with the heart, how to develop it, how to awaken it, I think this is a very fundamental human question if not the fundamental human question I was studying these things during the late ’60s, which was a time when spiritual teachers from around the world were coming to North America and where there was a great new interest in consciousness arising. I had an opportunity to meet a number of these spiritual teachers and not

The Spiritual Awakening of the Heart Begins with Something So Seemingly Simple

The unnumbing of the heart begins through the awakening of presence By presence I mean, a comprehensive awareness that can at one time encompass our thinking, our emotions, our bodily perceptions, our behaviors. That comprehensive awareness we call presence is close to what some people call mindfulness. In that state of pure presence, when the mind can begin to become a little more quiet, the emotions a little more still, we can begin to access this deeper level of our experience, which is the heart. The heart which is an instrument for sensing existence qualitatively and realizing that we live in a universe made up of all of these incredible qualities. For instance, the qualities of awe and majesty, the qualities of tenderness and compassion, the qualities of forgiveness and generosity, the qualities of beauty of meaning. So far, science has not successfully measured or accounted for this dimension of human experience. Yes, they can measure that the brain may react in a certain way and show a certain wave form when we are in a state of mindfulness, but it doesn’t tell us what that wave form actually is, what it feels like. The heart is also the instrument

The Fine Line Between Superficial and Authentic Emotional Self Care

The most inspiring aspect of humanity is our drive to push beyond limitations and reach new summits along the evolutionary climb. From a historical perspective, humans have ebbed and flowed with what it means to rest and work. We once found ourselves in a seamless alignment with the elements that slowly transitioned to farming and an industrial means to earn a living. However, in our modern era, space has opened up to release previous responsibilities and enjoy leisure, thus, birthing a new perspective surrounding emotional self care and wellness. The benefits of tending to our emotional self care needs are numerous, but not without a shadow. How did emotional wellness become so mainstream, and is it possible we might be distorting what it truly means to take care of ourselves? While it is imperative to carve sacred time for ourselves, there is also a fine line for using it as a means of escapism. Where there is a demand, there is a supply ready to follow. Scroll once, and you are bound to come across several products. Emotional self care has been reduced to applying an organic charcoal mask and showing up to the weekly sound bath. Yet, deep down,

Do You Need a Spiritual Teacher to Grow?

The old adage, “When the student is ready, the master appears,” has been said many times with a level of truth pertaining to just about any seeker of knowledge or wisdom. However, in most cases, the saying is applied to those who wish to devote themselves more deeply on the spiritual path. In today’s information-driven and consumer-based landscape, where instant gratification desperately looms, the possibility of becoming an enlightened being overnight can entice even the most patient of them all. The risk to be mindful of is to not give away your power to any outside source or modality. Spoiler alert: You don’t need anything but yourself. Everything else is just a bonus and if you’re feeling called to work with a spiritual teacher, be sure to have an intention and use discernment. Spiritual teachers have left a remarkable impact throughout the centuries, bringing the esoteric to light while leaving a legacy that would benefit dark times for the highest transformation. There is a lot of power in this, and the weight of responsibility cannot be ignored. Committing to a spiritual teacher requires more than finding an honest and ethical practitioner. It requires self-honesty, pure intention, surrender, integration, and embodiment.

In Every Sphere of Life, Your Heart Will Enhance Performance

That source is longing to be known, is longing to be in relationship to you This time-space continuum is just the theater in which the attributes of the divine, the attributes of spirit, manifest. And we’re here to understand and experience this theater qualitatively so that we begin to sense that there is a source to all of this and that, that source is longing to be known, is longing to be in relationship to you. And that your greatest satisfaction as a human being will come when you enter into that relationship. This is what we mean by worship. But by worship, we don’t mean ritual or ceremony. This is what we mean by prayer, but by prayer, we don’t mean asking for something. We mean a relationship, a conscious relationship with something intensely spiritual, intensely real, loving, generous, beautiful. When we have that experience, as it grows in us, as it becomes, you might say our baseline, everything in life changes. We have fears, we have disappointments, we have sorrow, we have pain, we have all these things, but they’re in a way transformed because we know we’re living in Love’s universe. And we know that how we

If Following Your Heart Feels Impossible, Then Try This Simple Method

We’ve all had to make decisions that felt important in one way or another, and sometimes these decisions haven’t always felt easy to make. Whether it be to leave that job, relationship, or make that big move cross country, the logic creeps in before we’ve even gotten to fully feel the pulse of our heart’s subtle wisdom. There can be levels and layers of confusion that steer us from the truth we know within. At our innermost core, the faces of illusions are nothing more than projected images that can easily be seen for what they are. The way I see it, following our hearts can be the most fluid and effortless thing we do on a daily basis. Feel about it. It’s a muscle, after all, and the more we consult with it, the stronger the muscle memory becomes.  From my experience, finding my way back to the path of a heart-led life meant actively creating it from the smallest of examples. It meant less seeking for the flash of insight or blazing epiphany and more creating for the spaces of stillness to listen deeply. It’s a practice, not a race. It’s made from the simple things you do

Emotions are Reflected in Heart Rate Variability, the Patterns Between Heartbeats

The 4 primary ways heart communicates with brain and body Our core work over the years has been psychophysiology. It has especially been about how the heart and brain communicate. Our focus has been on how the heart communicates back to the brain—or really to the brain—and how the activity of the heart/quality of the neural signals will affect brain function. It is quite surprising all the ways that the activity of the heart affects our brain and perceptions of the world. There are four primary ways that the heart communicates with the brain and body. 1. Neurological pathway The one I’ll talk about most is neurological. In fact, what I’m about to tell you is not new, but it’s surprising to most people—even physicians and neuroscientists. The heart sends more neural signals to the brain than the brain sends to the heart. That’s been known since the late 1800s. This is basic anatomy, and it’s just been forgotten and kind of rediscovered more recently. 2. Hormonal pathway Hormonally is another way that the heart communicates with the brain and body. It was in the mid-’80s that the heart was reclassified to be part of the interveinal hormonal system, with the

Did You Know That the Earth Itself Has A Heartbeat? And Our Connection to Earth Is Critical for Our Health and Well-Being

While you are grounded, the rhythm of your heart is supported While you’re grounded, you are supported, your heart health, just in the rhythm that it beats, the most basic function of the heart is supported. When you undock yourself and become insulated from the healing support of the earth, it goes back to baseline, back to this disconnect, back to a more functional perfunctory robotic function, which again, that’s one of the biggest ways that we have to predict who’s going to suffer and what someone’s lifespan is after stress or a health crisis, like a heart attack, talking about the heart. That’s one thing. I love it that on the physical level, we have medical studies showing how being grounded changes the rhythm of your heartbeat and makes it more robust, and makes it more sensitive. Then if you kind of take a step back and look at it energetically, how that might translate, the strength of your heart is that adaptability. You lose that adaptability, you lose the strength of it, and think about your emotions, too. It’s the same thing. That’s why I like to use grounding as a treatment for emotional disturbances, like a panic

Earthing Can Have Beneficial Effects On Health

Grounding is definitely the most natural direct form of healing that I know of That’s why there’s not a patient on earth that I’ve worked with that hasn’t benefited in some way. It’s not something that is a new concept. It’s something that we actually forgot for a while and we’re just rediscovering. It’s literally just touching the earth. I mean, it’s as simple as that. Obviously, since the dawn of time, anything alive has bloomed from the earth and in contact with the earth, and it wasn’t till super recently that we invented plastic shoes and installation in our homes and cars that we drive around on. The disconnect has been really recent, so it’s interesting when I get interviewed for talking about grounding, it’s like, they’re like, how do we discover this? It’s so ridiculous that we’ve been so removed that, that seems such a foreign concept, but over time, everything has evolved and the earth gives us life in the air, and in water, and in food. Obviously, we’re meant to live on the earth in our bodies, and the health of our bodies is supported by the earth. People think of being supported by the earth

How Does the Earth’s Magnetic Field Affect Heart Coherence?

When we’re in a heart-coherent state, a particular heart rhythm pattern that ultimately reflects the activity in the branches of our nervous system is more synchronized. It especially reflects our higher brain system activity. The whole neural axis is getting more in-sync, more function in a more optimal state.  Early on in our research, we found that by studying positive emotions—so when people are actually feeling, not thinking, this is an important distinction, but actually the felt experience of things like passion, appreciation, love, kindness, these feelings—that’s the rhythm our heart’s naturally beating out, and that’s the information it’s encoding. It takes us into a coherent state. The role local environments play regarding coherence levels I developed a number of techniques to help people shift into that more optimal state right in the moment. That’s a lot of what we do at HeartMath.  The precursor to global coherence is what happens in our local environment. So a number of experiments have been shown that if the fields were irradiated and we’re able to maintain our coherence, that has a measurable effect on other people in our local environment—a lifting effect. It helps them get more coherent, right? That’s at the

Energy Codes Are an Ancient Tool for the Sacred Advancement of the Modern World

I take trips with people to Egypt and to India and to Bali and to South America, to Machu Picchu; I do all kinds of stuff to teach them how to do these practices in all these sacred sites of the world. It’s super great. One of the things that we do that I notice when I’m in Bali and when I’m in India in particular, is that there are places in those countries where the streets are ignored. People are driving everywhere. Cows are walking through the streets. People are walking down the middle of the road. Chickens are crossing, goats, everything; it’s just chaos. The energy of our system is like chaos until we build this superhighway to let the energy actually become organized. When the energy becomes organized, now it has the power to start doing some healing things in our systems, the way it’s designed to be doing. Until it’s organized, it doesn’t have the power to do that. It’s just bouncing here and there, and it’s just not tethered. So, we have to get it quickened and anchored and running up and down this. We have to build a superhighway, and then we have to

Heartmath Study Suggests Humans Are Connected Via Their Hearts and the Earth Magnetic Field

The experiments that we’re doing now, well, there are two levels. This is where one of the surprises has come in. None of this is easy, but what’s the relatively easier part is to study how changes in the environmental field, the Earth’s magnetic field, and solar fields, and so on, affect us.  We’ve been doing a number of studies where people wear these recorders that record the heart rate variability for a long time period. They’re little lightweight devices that we have now. It’s much easier than what it used to be, when we used to have halter records, big, clunky things. These studies are recording, 24/7, the heart rate variability of groups of people over long time periods. The longest study was five months of people wearing these recorders. The story is where the surprise came from, a 30-day study where a small group of people wearing these recorders. 10 people, for 30 days. 24/7, for 30 days. This particular study had people located throughout the state of California, so we have some participants down south, some here in central California, some up north, and so these are people that are going about their normal lives. They’re not

This Mind-Boggling Research From the Institute of Heartmath Shows That Your Heart Might be the Key to Intuition and Precognition

The surprise came in understanding how these signals from the heart affected the brain function when we started doing some experiments on intuition. This is because there are three types of intuition that we have identified. The surprise came in one of the three categories we call non-local intuition. Locating the body’s true first responder When we were looking, very rigorous experiments, people were wired up to equipment and other measures. We were wanting to look at the flow of this information. These are experiments to show that physiology will react before a future, unknown event is presented. This has been confirmed independently in multiple labs now. The surprise came when, with hindsight, the heart was the first to respond. The heart responds first, then sends a measurably different neurological signal to the brain, which gets, very quickly, to the frontal cortex, and then you have a body response. The gut feeling, right? When you feel it, or the hair on the back of your neck—if you’re paying attention, it becomes a conscious, felt experience. The real flow of information was heart, brain, body. If you’re paying attention, you have the feeling, so the gut gets the credit a lot

Energy Is Electro-Magnetic, the Mind Operates Like Electricity and the Heart Operates Like A Magnet

Body meets soul meets mind The body has everything to do with how we get to know ourselves, the self that those meditation practices or those religious experiences that tell us it’s not about the body are trying to get us to understand. What they’re trying to get us to understand is true, but we have to bring the body into the mix if we’re ever going to let that be true for us here in this world, paying our bills, and driving our cars, and tending to our children, and making sure that our health is in order. So it’s all important. “We think we can just think our way through, and we know more and more, but about less and less.”  We’ve become so specialized. My exposure to this was through healthcare and through medical practices. For instance, that’s an easy thing for us to relate to. We have so many specialists in medicine that no one’s really paying attention to the whole person, and sometimes, we even have to hire a steward, someone to interpret from this doctor, to this doctor, to this doctor,to help some kind of integrative approach happen so that the whole person is

When the Mind Is Focused On the Heart, It Dials Us Into An Energy and Frequency That Supports All of Nature

Not being able to meditate… Many people have that as an issue. The nature of that particular meditation that I was leading when we met was to give the mind something to do that is more productive than what it normally does by chewing on all kinds of thoughts and to-do lists and analyzing circumstances and situations, and trying to figure out what I should do next, or if I’m doing this thing right, and all that stuff that the busy mind does. We give it something more productive to do and just walk it down into this deep, deep state of presence. The reason for that is that that is where true healing happens. That’s it. We have to be in that deep state of loving presence for healing to actually happen on any level, whether it’s physical, mental, emotional, spiritual, all of it, healing happens when all those parts of us come together very differently than how our culture is used to thinking about: taking something to get better or having a procedure done to fix something. At the end of the day, what really allows for healing to happen is that the heart has the mind’s attention

The Human Heart Is a World Turned Inside Out and the Physical World Is Connected with the Spiritual World

The natural connection between the physical heart and the etheric heart According to Rudolf Steiner, since the year 1721 the natural connection between the physical and the etheric heart has loosened. By about 2100 the etheric part will have completely separated from the physical heart. “On the whole, man is a physical body embedded in an etheric body; we need not consider the other today. But the intimacy of the connection – I do not mean the spatial covering, but the dynamic in the connection – changes in the course of the earth’s development, and the intimate relations between the etheric head and the human physical head, which existed, for example, in the centuries of which one speaks mainly when one speaks of Greek culture, these relations have no longer existed since the 3rd century before Christ. Since the 3rd century before Christ the old connection of intimacy between the etheric head of man and the physical head has already been lost. But a quite intimate connection between the human physical heart and the human etheric heart has always been maintained. Wanna use this illustration on your website? The Heart Is a Sense Organ for Inner Perception

The heart as a sense organ The heart is a very fine sense organ, through which the head, especially by means of the cerebellum, subconsciously perceives what is going on in the rest of the organism, i.e. in the rhythmic system and in the metabolic-limb system. This normally subconscious perception was tried to be raised to consciousness in the Mithras initiation. Thereby the Mithras disciple gradually learned to feel very finely through his heart organization the influence of the course of the year on his metabolic-limb system, which was symbolically represented by the bull. By thus looking back at himself through his heart, the spiritual disciple could study the course of the sun through the zodiac and from it give instructions as to what was to be done at what season. The New Heart Thinking Combines the Clarity of the Intellect With the Certainty of the Heart

The way to the heart goes through the head Today we are once again in the Michael Age, which began in 1879. Its central task is to develop a new heart thinking, which should replace the mere head thinking, but at the same time further develop its fruits. Head thinking therefore forms the indispensable basis of the heart thinking to be developed. Rudolf Steiner therefore rightly writes in his “Philosophy of Freedom”: “The way to the heart goes through the head.” (GA 4, P. 25) “As necessary as it is – this has already been emphasized – that one first passes through the training of a good, rational thinking, where one has first learned to comprehend things, before one ascends to higher worlds, so necessary is it that one again rises above this ordinary thinking to an immediate comprehension. And precisely because this is so necessary, that one learns to grasp things directly in the higher world, one must on the other hand undertake that logical foundation. It must be done for the reason that otherwise one’s feelings and sensations would certainly be mistaken. One is not able to judge in the higher world if one carries the ordinary intellectual

The Most Valuable Thing Is When Thoughts Have a Heart

It is certainly valuable when man also has a heart and not just thoughts The originally still very lively head thinking came more and more under the rule of Ahriman and thus dried up to an unfeeling dead mechanistic thinking, which is omnipresent today and cuts man off from his spiritual roots. “The second stage of development is where man begins to think. More and more today are those people who begin to go out of the original feeling and reflect on the things into which they were born. This is why today we see so much criticism of ancient sacred traditions and creeds. This is the reaction of the mind and intellect towards what has been accepted unchecked by the mind out of feeling, out of sensation. The same ability of the human soul, which criticizes what has been brought up or is innate, we see prevailing in what we call science. Science in today’s sense is essentially a work of the same soul forces which have just been characterized. The outer experiences, the outer perceptions, whether they are gained directly through the senses or through those refinements of the senses, such as those offered by the telescope, the

Heart Thinking Is Based on Imaginations Fueled by Inspiration

Heart thinking Heart thinking is an ability that people in earlier times possessed in an unconscious way. The “seeing with the heart” was connected with a sense of truth, which could not yet be grasped in clear, conscious contours, but nevertheless made certain insights into the higher, spiritual worlds possible. Even Aristotle regarded the heart as the central organ of thought. But at the same time he planted with his logic the sure basis for the thinking of the mind, which is no longer centered in the heart, but in the head. This kind of thinking blooms in our intellect of today, which, however, can at first only grasp the sensual facts and see through them in their logical order, and this with full, awake ego-consciousness. In the future, a new kind of heart-thinking will develop which is compatible with the fully awake ego-consciousness, and thus allows insight into purely spiritual connections in a completely conscious and level-headed way. It will differ essentially from our present mind in that it is not a discursive, deductive thinking, but overlooks the truth with a glance. Wanna use this illustration on your website? Exploring Essence Love and the Deeper Sense of the Word ‘Heart,’ According to Tantric Teachings

Some thoughts are of course not even useful tools, right? They’re just divisive, or create suffering; but thoughts, at best, are tools, but they are never true. This meaning, even at their best, thoughts are representations of reality that we take to be reality. Essence nature, the heart, and the fundamentals of who we are This deconstruction process then leads to an experience in which Shiva symbolizes ,not so much destruction as people think, but beneficial dissolution. Dissolving self-images, dissolving all your ideas about yourself and what a person should do, you know, this is what a good person looks like, this is what a bad person looks like, and replacing those moral and cultural constructs with connection to the innermost heart. The idea being, if you’re connected to what’s called your “essence nature,” meaning what you fundamentally are—if you are fully connected to your true nature and expressing that, you’ll automatically act for the benefit of all beings, even without any moral rules whatsoever, because it is your true nature to do so. There is a kind of belief that at heart, we are beings of love. That we are what you might say fundamentally good, but where good

Christoper Wallis, Founder of Tantrika Institute, Re-Earths the Lost Origins of Tantra and Clears Western Misconceptions

Clarity on tantra and Western misconceptions I’ll just briefly address what tantra is, because it’s a pretty huge topic. Essentially tantra, which in Sanskrit literally means ‘the system’ or a system of practice, was a spiritual movement that arose in north India around the year 500, or a little bit earlier, but it really appeared in a substantial way around the year 500. It grew in popularity until, as a spiritual movement, it was very widespread, indeed. Not so much numerically, not to say it was a popular movement per se, because tantra was always reserved for very committed, dedicated spiritual practitioners. It’s what we call an initiatory tradition. Anyone could be initiated regardless of caste, class, gender, social background, et cetera. To be initiated though, you had to sort of demonstrate to a guru, or teacher that your longing for doing deep spiritual practice was genuine. So, they tried to sort of keep the ranks of the initiated to those people who were really committed to a daily spiritual practice. In that sense, it was numerically not all that huge, but had a massive influence on not only the culture of south Asia and Asia generally, but also even

Tantra Scholar Describes What Happens When You Take the Leap of Faith into Your Heart

In the tantric tradition, Shiva and Shakti are understood esoterically. For initiates it’s taught that Shiva is awareness, the still silent, open, quiet presence and Shakti is flowing energy, including every emotion, every thought, every experience, every phenomenon. Shakti and Shiva are in love, they are a couple, metaphorically. This is just a metaphor. They’re in love because they’re constantly intimate with each other because awareness holds space for energy and energy flows through awareness. And if it’s not impeded its flow is part of the beauty of life. You know, so Shiva and Shakti are depicted making love in the metaphorical image. This, by the way, is the main cause of the whole misunderstanding about tantra in the West, was the experience of God and goddess making love. Whoa, that’s a cool religion, let’s just have sex and call it religion. But, the image was metaphorical. You know, not to say there’s no sexual ritual in tantra, but primarily the image was metaphorical. Meaning, Shiva and Shakti are making love because it’s awareness and energy delighting in each other, which is happening inside of us all the time, if we just open to it. Making love creates a feeling

The Tantric Recipe for Nurturing the Heart’s Nectar Beckons the Power of Childlike Curiosity

The tantra tradition argues that most people don’t investigate the one aspect of their being; which is always there and always the same, which is awareness itself. Everything else changes. The only factor in every experience you’ve ever had is awareness. Yet, people don’t investigate the nature of this awareness and it comes as this incredible delightful surprise if, through spiritual practice, you investigate awareness and you find it is not neutral. It actually has these qualities of what we might call loving presence, meaning awareness.  It has this quality of being willing to meet whatever is arising and hold space for it. Awareness holds space for everything that arises and subsides with this quietly, implacably loving presence. Implacably meaning, it doesn’t lose its quality of loving presence, no matter what the experience is but, you don’t notice that because thoughts and feelings can be very loud and awareness is quiet. Awareness, per se, is incredibly quiet and still, and yet it’s the space within which all these loud experiences arise and subside. So, that’s what you and everyone gets to check in their own experience. Have a moment of sort of pure consciousness, where pure consciousness just means awareness

Heart Thinking is Based in the Heart Chakra

Thinking from the heart and pure thinking In ordinary life, people have the feeling that they think with their heads. Of course, this is only a figurative expression, one thinks with the spiritual organs that underlie the brain; but everyone understands what it means to think with the head. One has quite a different feeling towards that thinking which occurs when one has progressed a little further on the path of development which we have characterized. One really has the feeling as if what is otherwise localized in the head is now localized in the heart. It is not the physical heart, however, which thinks, but that organ which forms as a spiritual organ near the heart, the so-called twelve-petaled lotus flower. It becomes a kind of thinking organ; and the thinking that occurs there is very different from ordinary thinking. In ordinary thinking, everyone knows that he has to use reasoning to arrive at a truth. One has to go from concept to concept. One starts from one point, then logically goes on to other points, and what one comes to in the course of time by making logical considerations is called truth, cognition. This is a cognition attained

The new heart thinking is based on the center of man—on his heart region

The new heart thought and the rediscovered center of man The new heart thinking is based on the center of man, on his heart region, which is not accessible to the adversary powers, but only to the Christ, the macrocosmic I, which is essentially one with the real I of man. “People who had been an inspired thought-being in the previous earth life, that is, who had been Michael-servants, felt urged to such voluntary Michael-community when they came back to earth life at the end of the nineteenth century. They now regarded their old thought-inspirer as the sage in the higher thought-being. Whoever knows how to pay attention to such things could know what a turnaround took place in the last third of the nineteenth century with regard to the thought life of man. Before, man could only feel how thoughts were formed out of his being; from the indicated period on, he can rise above his being; he can direct the sense into the spiritual; there Michael meets him, and he proves to be an ancient relative of all thought-weaving. He frees the thoughts from the realm of the head; he clears the way for them to the heart;

Do follow the healthy diet. Don’t just do psychology work to resolve the trauma. Consider the physical body, don’t throw out the physical things you can do. If you’ve got leaky gut or food sensitivities or dysbiosis, if you’ve got high blood sugar levels, your circadian rhythms and good sleep is so important. Do what I call a chemical cleanup. If you know you’ve got some issues where you have got some biological markers that are going out, maybe the blood sugar is going a little bit higher, and maybe the cholesterol’s going high a little bit, go and see a naturopathic doctor. Check in and follow their recommendations.Follow the healthy diet. That’s going to reverse the physical impact. When it’s done consistently over a period of time, you can reverse the epigenetics. You can switch off the genes that are pro-inflammatory that have

How Do Adverse Childhood Experiences Influence the Relaitonship Between Mind and Body Later On in Life?

How do adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) affect the body? I talk about four ways that emotional trauma changes biology. So the first one is, it impacts behavior. If you’ve had a rough childhood and you’ve had some high levels of ACEs, it’s absolutely proven that you will more likely engage in risky health behaviors and damaging health behaviors. I know the statistics, for example, if you have had four ACEs, you’re seven times more likely to become an alcoholic, you’re over three times as likely to engage in risky sexual behavior, you’re over 11 times more likely to use injection drugs, 12 times more likely to be suicidal. So clearly, that kind of behavior is going to lead to those health statistics, and obviously the impact on the heart and so on. But the interesting thing is that big study of 17.5 thousand people. They actually looked at it and said, ‘Okay, if they were looking at people that had normal cholesterol, didn’t drink, didn’t smoke, had a normal body mass index, weren’t diabetic, they were healthy.’ Yet if they had seven ACEs, they still had a 360% increased risk of heart disease. So that’s when you were still sort

Detangling Layers of Childhood Trauma Begins with the Body, Molecular Subtleties and External Influences

Trauma and emotional trauma are such an underexposed factor that impacts heart health. It’s also a bridge. It’s a connector between sort of the spirit, the emotional, and the physical heart. When we talk about emotional trauma and the impact that it’s having on biology, that’s the core of mind-body medicine. So, it’s hugely important, and it does fall under this category where we talk about stress. I think that that word is such an overused word. I think a lot of people know of stress. They know that stress is bad for them. I think a lot of people realize stress is really bad for the heart, but we have a superficial understanding about the word stress. People may associate it with getting too many emails, or too many to-do things on the list, or too many phone calls, too much work pressure. When we talk about stress a bit more deeply, adult stress is big things like going through relationship difficulties, divorce, job stress, physical accidents. That is getting a bit deeper, and it’s a bigger understanding of the word stress. But most people don’t realize the greatest source of stress in their life most likely came from

The Soul, It’s Core & Many Dimensions

Soul – Intro The term soul has many meanings, depending on the different mythical, religious, philosophical or psychological traditions and teachings in which it occurs. In contemporary usage, it often refers to the totality of all emotional and mental processes in human beings. In this sense, “soul” is largely synonymous with “psyche,” the Greek word for soul. However, “soul” can also refer to a principle that is assumed to underlie these emotions and processes, to order them, and also to bring about or influence physical processes. In addition, there are religious and philosophical concepts in which “soul” refers to an intangible principle that is conceived as the bearer of an individual’s life and its identity that remains constant throughout time. Often associated with this is the assumption that the soul is independent of the body, and thus of physical death, in terms of its existence, and is therefore immortal. Death is interpreted as a process of separation of soul and body. In some traditions it is taught that the soul already exists before conception, that it inhabits and controls the body only temporarily and uses it as a tool or is locked up in it like in a prison. Self – Overview

Self is used in psychological, educational, sociological, philosophical, and theological terms with inconsistent meanings. In the sense of self-observation, i.e. in relation to the sensation of being a unified, consistent feeling, thinking and acting being, it is used to reflect, reinforce and emphasize the term I. The self is used in the sense of the center of personality.[1] Self as a psychological concept In analytical psychology according to Carl Gustav Jung, the self represents the center of the human psyche, encompassing human consciousness and unconsciousness.[7] The self represents the conscious part of the I,[8] which should strive to gradually become aware of the contents of the self and to recognize its multiplicity and unity, which Jung calls “self-realization”[9] and “individuation”[10]. If, on the other hand, the self remains completely unconscious to the ego, the latter already considers itself to be the whole, which Jung sees as a danger to mental health.[11] C. G. Jung thus saw the self as the reason and goal of man’s development through personality maturation and differentiation, as a principle of development inherent in the person and directed toward personal wholeness,\[12]\[13] striving for entelechy in the individuation process.[14] Self in the psychoanalytic view Freud and the

Consiousness in Philosophy, Science, and Religion

17th century concept of consciousness Consciousness (derived from the Middle High German word bewissen in the sense of “having knowledge of something”,[1] Latin _conscientia_ “co-knowledge” and Ancient Greek συνείδησις syneídēsis “co-appearance”, “co-image”, “co-knowledge,” συναίσθησις _synaísthēsis_ “co-perception,” “co-feeling,” and φρόνησις phrónēsis from φρονεῖν phroneín “to be in one’s senses, to think”) is, in the broadest sense, the experience of mental states and processes. A generalized definition of the term is difficult due to its various uses with different meanings. Scientific research is concerned with definable properties of conscious experience. Meaning of the term consciousness The word “consciousness” was coined by Christian Wolff as a loan translation of the Latin conscientia.[2] The Latin word had originally meant conscience and had first been used in a more general sense by René Descartes. In linguistic usage, the term consciousness has a very diverse meaning, which partly overlaps with the meanings of mind and soul. In contrast to the latter, however, the term consciousness is less determined by theological and dualistic-metaphysical thoughts, which is why it is also used in the natural sciences. It complicates many discussions that consciousness basically has two meanings.[3] The first is that we perceive something and are awake and aware.

Enlightenment Through Full-Spectrum Perspectives

Enlightenment – Intro Enlightenment (from Old High German arliuhtan “to illuminate”, Middle High German erliuhtunge “to light up”, “enlightenment”; Latin illuminatio), also **illumination**, refers to a religious-spiritual experience in which a person believes that his everyday consciousness has been transcended and he has obtained everlasting insight into – however pronounced – holistic reality. In today’s common usage, “enlightenment” is usually understood as a sudden realization or inspiration. There are different opinions about the processes that are described by the term enlightenment in the religious sense and the reasons for their occurrence, which are related to the respective philosophical or religious background of the person making the judgement. In some cases, enlightenment is understood as a spontaneous breakthrough or as the final result of a process of spiritual practice and development, according to other interpretations it is due to divine grace, and still others believe it is a combination of both. Usually, the idea of enlightenment is associated with the assumption that it brings about a profound and lasting change in the personality. In European traditions, enlightenment is often counted among mystical experiences. In the terminology of Asian religions, there are no expressions that correspond exactly to the European term “enlightenment,”

How to Pave a Spiritual Path From the Heart and Find Your Truths on Every Aspect of Life

The unfolding of life and spirituality is constantly evolving and shifting depending on surrounding perspectives. For most of the population, success is measured by concrete results and worldly possessions that can often feel shallow to the soul, regardless of whether they are aware of it. In the most straightforward example, the road offered by society follows a cookie-cutter design as if we were machines on a conveyer belt destined for overnight processing and shipping. Sometimes this belt moves so fast that the dreams we think we hold are confused with the mere expectations of a world at large. Although different, this can also be said for the spiritual path where teachers and practices might cloud your soul’s direction sincerely wishes to pave. While there is no right or wrong way to enjoy life, there is what feels aligned and in tune with you. Why follow someone else’s ideologies on spirituality when your path might mean something entirely different for you? What is spirituality? The same way society might make us believe we need to take that 9 to 5 office job with health benefits is the same way our ego might trick us into holding onto spiritual crutches. The fact

How to Open the Heart with Cacao Through Intentional Practice

Not only has cacao vaporized my morning coffee routine, but it has also added a rich layer to the way I lead my life as a ceremony. Where the mainstream views coffee as a quick beverage to start the day, I always felt it as an opportunity to sit and awaken the senses. The slow inhalation of a rising steam and grounding sip always brought me so much joy. This morning ritual was very intentional. However, when I started to set coffee aside and bring cacao in more regularly, I began to deepen my relationship to the medicine and direct it straight to the heart. It’s been a fueling ally to my creative endeavors and personal reflections that I can’t help but to share with you. For centuries, cacao has been revered as a natural medicinal healer, used in ceremonial settings, and treasured by ancient royalty. There is a strong history behind this plant and its uses. This is especially true and relevant in the modern-day where ceremonial gatherings are still held and the songs and traditions are still alive. In a time of radical transition, returning to the heart is where the healing begins. Intentional work with cacao is

Protecting and Nurturing Spiritual Wellness Amidst the Rise of Materialism

When exploring spirituality, various concepts may arise depending on how someone’s life experience sculpted their overall view. However, throughout the ages, spiritual wellness has become vulnerable to commercialization and industrialization, promising quick fixes packaged in rose gold boxes—all in the name of bliss and materialism. At the same time, authentic spiritual health has gone as far as saving lives and as close as shifting superficial narratives to bring a more profound sense of awareness of one’s true self. The benefits of spiritual wellness extend beyond the physical. It gives us an opportunity to deepen our understanding of the internal sphere and improve our emotional and spiritual wellness. The spiritual journey also offers the opportunity to connect with the invisible thread that weaves all of our experiences together. When looking at the scales of spirituality in the modern world, how can we recognize the harmony in honoring ancient pearls of wisdom while integrating them into our daily lives? Exploring spiritual wellness & different perspectives The diversity in mythology, religion and story-telling offers a spring of concepts toward self-actualization, mindfulness and spiritual wellbeing. One example we might explore when reviewing the core principles to develop and tend to one’s spiritual wellness includes

Mindfulness and Its Shocking Transformation Through Modern Mainstream of Consciousness

Mindfulness is a state of presence of mind in which a person is awake enough to experience the present state of his immediate environment, body, and mind, without being distracted by streams of thoughts, memories, fantasies, or strong emotions, without thinking about or evaluating these perceptions. Mindfulness can be understood as a form of awareness related to a special state of perception and consciousness, as a special personality trait, and as a method of reducing suffering (in the broadest sense). Historically, “mindfulness” is found primarily in Buddhist teachings and meditation practices. In Western culture, the practice of “mindfulness” has become known through its use in the context of various psychotherapy methods.[1] The term mindfulness is also used in the context of care ethics for a practice of caring. Definitions of mindfulness Mindfulness according to Kabat-Zinn One of the most commonly cited definitions in the research comes from Jon Kabat-Zinn.[2] According to this definition, mindfulness is a particular form of attention that is intentional, relates to the present moment (rather than the past or the future), and is non-judgmental. Mindfulness according to Brown and Ryan Brown and Ryan[3] focus strongly on the attention aspect and formally define mindfulness as receptive attention

The Lifelong Impact Emotional Connection Between Mother and Baby During Pregnancy Might Pose on Child’s Future

It seems like my life has been focused on two main things: my spirituality, which I was very active in, even in high school, and babies. I found a way to put them together in ways that I never could have imagined when I was younger. I got my bachelor’s in nursing at the university of Kentucky and was an obstetric nurse in a hospital, helping moms deliver, have their babies. I loved it. Then I got my master’s in child development and family studies, but really specialized in infant development. This was back in the seventies. I just loved it all. When I came out, I decided rather than being a nurse, I’d really like to do counseling. So I went and got my PhD in counseling psych and opened a psychotherapy practice. I did my research on people having their babies. Everything was around babies, psychotherapy, growth, human potential, and spiritual potential. And I thought I kind of had found my lane. Then, in 1989, I got a flyer, out of the blue, from an organization that’s now called the Association of Prenatal and Perinatal Psychology and Health. It said, “The Power of Prenatal and Perinatal Experience—Maximizing Human

Spirituality – Overview and Basics

Spirituality – Intro Spirituality (from Latin spiritus, ‘spirit, breath’ or spiro, ‘I breathe’—like ancient Greek ψύχω resp. ψυχή, see psyche) is the search for, the turning towards, the immediate contemplation or subjective experience of a transcendent reality that cannot be sensually grasped or rationally explained and that underlies the material world. Spiritual insights can be connected with questions of meaning and value of existence, with the experience of the wholeness of the world in its connectedness with one’s own existence, with the “ultimate truth” and absolute, highest reality as well as with the integration of the sacred, inexplicable or ethically valuable into one’s own life. It is not a matter of mental insights, logic or communication about them, but of intense psychological, highly personal states and experiences that have a direct impact on the lifestyle and ethical ideas of the person. The prerequisite is a religious conviction, which, however, does not have to be connected with a specific religion. There is no generally accepted definition of the term. The personal, ideological belief determines its concrete meaning for each individual—for example, whether God or other spiritual beings, numinous or even natural forces play a role in it. In Christianity, spirituality used

The Field of Pre/Perinatal Psychology Might Be the Key to Fully Supporting Childhood Heart-Brain Coherence

When I was in nursing school, there really wasn’t any rotation that I liked other than OB and nurse babies. I’ve always been fascinated by the beginning of things. After I found this work [pre and perinatal psychology], I called my business Wondrous Beginnings, because I feel it captivated a huge opportunity as we’re learning more about who we were as babies coming in. A whole other octave of human potential is possible. And I’ve seen this. I’d like to go back to William being in that workshop. After seeing that incredible moment with the baby, he started talking about how he had followed up the first hundred babies that he had worked with. This was totally new work. He had no idea what the outcome was going to be like, except their symptoms went down. He knew that the families had kind of gotten how conscious they [their babies] are and how to be with them in a whole new way. But besides that, what would that be like? So years later, he followed up on the kids and talked to the parents, sometimes saw the kids, or went to the schools. What are they like? The kids were

5 Qualities of An Awakened Person and How to Deepen Heart-Led Embodiment

The spiritual awakening process can be the cataclysmic catapult that can shift someone functioning on autopilot to living as an awakened person. By no means is it a straightforward walk in the park. On the contrary, the path is just as rewarding as it is challenging, and perhaps this is what true freedom is all about. The adventurous reward stems from moments of self-reliance and an innate understanding that we are always supported. To awaken from a comfortable slumber marks the beginning of a lifetime of unlearning the programs in our subconscious mind, reimagining limiting beliefs, and nurturing a deeper relationship with benevolent energies and life force. It is the rebirth from an old way of seeing to a more embodied approach toward interacting with the world. If you’re on the spiritual path, you might remember the exact moment that led to your spiritual awakening, or perhaps it might be a culmination of moments. For others, awakening has always been part of their process while navigating through a three-dimensional realm. Regardless, while uniquely perceived, there are similar facets we all experience on the journey to self-realization and cosmic unity. Spiritual Practices Don’t Make Perfect, They Make for Interchangeable Experiences with the Mystical and Mundane

During my studies, I had a physics teacher who would always tell us, “Practice makes permanent,” rather than the lofty idea of practice making perfect. How you practice is how your results manifest, and this is just as true when deepening spiritual awareness as it is for the musician preparing for a show or an athlete training for a marathon. Spiritual practices can be a great ally in developing a closer connection to the universe, to ourselves, and the world at large. From seeing the magic in the mundane to honoring the depths in everyday simplicities, there is so much wonder to be discovered when we devote ourselves to a consistent spiritual practice. And while there is infinite beauty to be experienced, the spiritual path can also bring up darker aspects of our being. Having a practice to return to and ground into can be the peacemaker allowing us to rise up from any falls we encounter. When the world is constantly responding to the perspectives we hold, like a song and dance, a sharing of inhalations and exhalations, the more we fine-tune our end of reciprocation, the more impeccability is reflected along the cosmic mirror. Meditation – Overview and Basics

A friend told once told me we don’t spend enough time with ourselves. If we’re not staring at a screen, we’re spending time with friends. If we’re not socializing, we’re finding ways to be productive, whether running errands, clearing our home, or looking after others. “Meditate for 20 minutes a day. It’s the least you could do for your heart,” she shared. “And if that seems too difficult, imagine not giving your loved ones 20 minutes of your time. Then, how would your relationships evolve?”   As an avid practitioner in meditation, I reflected on both the gifts and challenges I have and continue to meet. Sure, getting a massage is a nice treat, but how can we truly get to know ourselves if we don’t spend real quality time with everything that makes us who we are? While meditation has surged in popularity over the past decades, it has also taken on a few common misconceptions. The more we can demystify meditation and strip it down beyond a trend, the freer we become and the fewer walls we put up. Whether you’ve been meaning to meditate or are just peering into this practice, my wish is that this information

In This Moving Perinatal Session, 13-Month Old Heals Deep Wounds and Broken Heart

What role does the heart play in a mother-child relationship that starts way before birth? It’s everything. The heart is the center of all human life. The heart is the center of all cosmic life.  Often people get really excited about these new ideas, and then it’s like, well, what’s it look like? Or how’s it possible?  There are so many different stories, some of which I shared in _Welcoming Consciousness_, my book, and my other writings.  I just started opening my practice up to very young kids. And I had all these characters and toys and things that looked like a sperm, an egg, and a conceptus. And you know, all these things that a child could go over and we could start playing with them. My intention was that early experiences may be part of what they need help with and what they’re dealing with today. Whatever they do is meaningful. I’m going to follow, reflect and help whatever was not able to express itself. One of the first experiences was with a little boy who came in. The parents had an open adoption. He was 13 months old and wasn’t attaching. And if he had any distress,

Balancing & Healing the Heart Chakra for a Happy Life

Introducing the Heart Chakra or Anahata The health of your heart chakra is one of vital importance to not only your own body and spirit, but to the whole world! The heart chakra is a portal. It’s a doorway that moves us from the physical world concerns of the lower chakras, and into the spiritual world of the upper chakras. It’s the bridge between self and other. It’s the connection point that unites all of humanity. It’s where we feel, where we heal, and is the chakra that opens us to compassion, acceptance, and grace when it is open and flowing. The journey through the heart chakra is where whole body healing can happen on every level. It’s the place where you can find balance and harmony from within, and broadcast that out into the world! What is the heart chakra responsible for? The heart chakra is responsible for our emotional connection with others and our sense of connectivity with the world around us. It encompasses not only the organ of the heart, but also the chest, breasts, and lungs. It’s where our thymus gland lives, which plays a huge role in our immune system and overall body health. The

5 Powerful Root Chakra Healing Practices for Whole-Body Balance

The root chakra is the base of your entire chakra system. If you have an imbalanced root chakra, it can throw off the balance of all your other chakras as well. So when it comes to energy healing, I always start at the 1st chakra, because a balanced root chakra lays the foundation for balance to be created throughout your entire body.  There is a central column of energy running through the center of your physical body, and it begins at this base chakra, in your pelvic floor. This central column extends up from your 1st chakra, goes through every energy center, and then comes out through the crown chakra at the top of the head. So if you have a blocked root chakra, this entire central column of energy is not being fed. This can leave you feeling exhausted, stressed, and depressed. Whenever you feel like you’re in survival mode or struggling for basic needs, or your adrenal glands are in flight, fight or freeze mode for far too long, it’s related to an imbalanced root chakra. So here are some root chakra healing ideas for you to use in your own life to help you bring in more

The Soul Drives the Blood and the Blood Moves the Heart

The soul drives the blood and the blood moves the heart The heart is the central organ of the blood circulation. It is a fist-sized hollow muscular organ resembling a rounded cone with the tip pointing downward and to the left front, slightly offset to the left side of the body behind the sternum. Only in the relatively rare case of right-heart disease is it more offset to the right side of the body, usually with an overall mirror-inverted organ arrangement (situs inversus). In the macrocosm the heart corresponds to the sun as the planetary metal to gold. The heart as a future voluntary organ The heart consists mainly of striated muscles, similar to our skeletal muscles, which we can operate arbitrarily. According to Rudolf Steiner, this already announces the future development through which the heart will one day become an arbitrary organ: “It is the organ that is intimately connected with the blood circulation. Now science believes that the heart is a kind of pump. This is a grotesque fantastic idea. Never has occultism made such a fantastic assertion as today’s materialism. That which is the moving force of the blood is the feelings of the soul. The soul

The Heart of Living Things Is the Foundation of Their Life

The heart is an organ with high electrical activity The heart is an organ with high electrical activity that can be recorded as an electrocardiogram (ECG). The electrical currents that flow through the heart generate a corresponding cardiac magnetic field that can be recorded as a magneto cardiogram (MCG). Although the magnetic field of the heart is much weaker than the earth’s magnetic field, it is 500 – 5000 times stronger than the magnetic field of the brain and can still be detected several meters outside the body.\[2]\[3][4] The activity of the heart muscles is stimulated by electrical impulses. In so-called myogenic hearts, as found in vertebrates, tunicates, mollusks, and some annelids and arthropods, these autonomous rhythmic impulses are excited by cardiac muscle cells specialized for this purpose. Neurogenic hearts, as found in some annelids and arthropods, in contrast, are excited by nerve cells. However, heart rate is also influenced by nerve activity in myogenic hearts such as that of humans. Appropriate heart rate variability is of crucial importance for the health of the entire organism. The actual cause of the heart’s movement, however, as Rudolf Steiner points out, lies in the astral body, but its influence on the heart

Chakra Symbols, Names and Their Meaning

If you’re a spirituality enthusiast like me, you’ve probably heard of the 7 chakra symbols. Perhaps in a yoga class, from your friend who practices meditation, or in a documentary about consciousness or emotional healing.  Although it has become more popular with the growth in popularity in New Age philosophies, the chakra system is an ancient and complex energy practice that originated in India first mentioned in the sacred texts of the Vedas around 1000 BC.  Below I will take you through everything you need to know about these energy points and their significance. What are the chakra symbols? Chakra means “wheel” in Sanskrit and refers to the different energy points in your body that should be kept aligned and open for healing and maintaining your physical and emotional well-being.  Although some say there are over 100 different chakras in our body, there are seven main ones that we should pay attention to. Each of them has a specific symbol, color, name, area, and health focus. The geometric shapes linked with each of the 7 chakras aren’t just beautiful designs. They represent much more than that. Where did chakra symbols come from? In tantric texts, the chakras have a mandala,

Your Rainbow – Chakra Colors, Meanings and How to Use Them

Color is energy that we can see and it is in the visible spectrum of light. However, each color vibrates at a different speed. Simply put, color is vibrational energy. The chakras are energy portals in our aura. It is easy to see why the chakra system is associated with these different colors. Traditional interpretations of chakras originated in early spiritual texts, with the earliest mention of chakras by the Upanishads around 700 BCE. At this time, chakras were not linked with colors. Drawing on the ideas of Theosophical texts and the views of C. W. Leadbeater, the historical view of chakras changed the West.  The correlation of chakras with colors was made in 1977 in a publication by Christopher Hill’s The Nuclear Evolution which connected the chakras with psychological states alongside colors of the rainbow. This idea of the rainbow body caught the imagination of the West. Although it is a modern association, it can be very helpful when working with our energetic body and various healing modalities. We may not be consciously aware, but our bodies interact with color on a subconscious level and affect our thoughts and emotions. What are the 7 main chakra colors? Red Red

How to Access Reiki Energy and Heal Through the Subtle Force Pulsing Through Your Hands

When I first learned about reiki, I was in my mid-teen years and just returning to the spiritual connection I felt during my childhood. I remember catching up with a dear friend of mind in between classes when she told me about her transformative experience receiving reiki.  As she shared about the reiki energy healing and cleansing that occurred through hand placements, I couldn’t help but feel intrigued. When You Heal Your Energy Field, You Dramatically Help Heal the World

Everything from the device you’re using to read this article to the planets spinning around in the sky possesses a unique energy field that informs and communicates with surrounding environments. Although invisible, these energy fields carry a strength powerful enough to attract similar frequencies that magnify specific properties or to repel and rise above limiting forces. For example, from a macroscopic level, we can look at planet Earth, whose field consists of a multi-layered atmosphere that sustains our temperature and wind patterns, as well as a magnetic field that shields us from the vast unpredictability of space weather. Without these different layers, the planet would be lifeless, sucked of its resources by the vacuum of space, and this also goes for our human bodies.  Our energy fields are an incredible facet that we can work with to our advantage in maximizing health levels, increasing fulfillment, and attracting like-hearted individuals into our lives. These fields’ simultaneous strength and sensitivity can amplify and lift others or, if left unattended, soak up toxic patterns from the environment. This is where it gets real to the deal, my friends. We are more powerful than we have ever truly known, and with that comes a

Perhaps you’ve heard of chakra balancing in a yoga class, from your friend who practices meditation, or in a documentary about consciousness or emotional healing.  Chakra means “wheel” in Sanskrit and refers to the different energy points in your body that should be kept aligned and open for healing and maintaining your physical and emotional well-being.  Although it has become more popular with the growth of New Age philosophies, the chakra system is an ancient and complex energy practice that originated in India. It was first mentioned in the sacred texts of the Vedas around 1000 BC.  These chakras release energy that flows into our everyday lives and are linked to specific parts of our body. When facing a challenging circumstance, this energy can get blocked and stop flowing freely, leading to chakra imbalance.  These blockages can manifest in different ways. For example, the throat chakra influences our communication skills. If you are dealing with a relationship where you are unable to speak your mind, this chakra gets blocked, and you may lose your voice. Below we will describe all of these energy centers and what

Your Sacral Chakra – 5 Ways to Empower Your Daily Life

Your sacral chakra houses the well of creative power and potential within you. Located in your lower abdomen just beneath the belly button, it’s the energetic womb space where desires are seeded, ideas are conceived, and creation takes place. As your second chakra, the sacral is supported by the energy of the root chakra, where it expands upon our base survival instincts and needs into the realm of creation, feelings, and desires. The sacral chakra then funnels these urges and emotions into fuel for our solar plexus chakra, where all that creative energy can be taken action on and brought into form. The heart chakra also plays a special role in feeding your sacral well with desires, inspiration, and joy.  Associated with the water element, the sacral chakra is the regulator of your energy flow, your emotions, and the physical waters within your body (through the blood, kidneys, urinary and reproductive organs.) Your life force energy, sexual energy, creativity, passion, and pleasure all stem from this vital energy center in your body. As an energy worker, when I’m performing a chakra healing treatment on someone, I often perceive their sacral chakra as a body of water of some sort. It

Activate the Power of Your Inner Vision Through A Balanced Third Eye Chakra

The third eye chakra, or ajna chakra, is a bit of a misnomer as it is not only connected to the place within our etheric body known as the third eye, it is the chakra that encompasses our entire head, our mind, and our belief system. The sixth chakra lies at the center of your head and is associated with the brain, pineal gland and pituitary gland, your physical eyes and optical nerve, forehead, temples, sinuses, and all your “sixth” senses, or intuitive abilities. Spiritually and energetically, the third eye chakra is all about our beliefs and perceptions of the world as seen through the lens of our mind’s eye. Your mind is not encompassed within your physical brain or in your skull. It is big and wide, both inside and outside of your body, communicating with other minds, beings and energetic planes all the time. And the sixth chakra is the seat of your connection to the universal consciousness. It’s your individuation of all that can be perceived and where you can communicate with your inner wisdom and access spiritual awareness. The sixth chakra is really our inner eye, where all our thoughts and feelings are perceived. It’s home

The Keys to Developing A Spiritual Connection Serve the Relationships You Ultimately Attract

What does having a spiritual connection mean? Developing a strong spiritual connection is not something you can purchase in a grocery store or learn by reading a book. It usually comes after going through profound emotional experiences, relationships, and life-changing challenges. Self-connection is a state of being in which you can tune into your higher self, your emotional, spiritual, and physical needs, balancing them in your daily decisions. A deep spiritual connection helps you listen to your intuition and become aware of your five senses to quickly understand what things are keeping you from experiencing a thriving a healthy life. Every action you make serves a higher purpose, and you can deal with negative emotions more successfully. It’s a heightened state of being that can make you more independent and find inner peace—even during the most challenging times. When you experience a strong spiritual bond with yourself, you cherish your time and don’t waste it on any projects or relations that don’t align with your spiritual objectives. In my personal experience, I was obsessed with being perceived by my family and friends as someone intellectual, engaged in the current music culture, and intelligent enough to engage in meaningful conversations. Spiritual Health Comes From Universal Principles That Inform Every Aspect of Our Lives

Some people describe the spiritual dimension as what cannot be defined as part of the mind and body. These three aspects of our self influence each other, so if we improve our spiritual wellness, we’ll be heading in the right direction towards our physical health and overall healing journey. Spiritual care is not a magic wand that will cure all our discomforts, but it can help us cope with the challenges related to dis-ease. 7 Powerful Heart Chakra Stones for Healing & Harmony

Healing crystals are one of the simplest and most helpful tools for working through heavy emotions in your heart space. They can help you clear through grief and pain, to mend what’s broken, forgive the past and heal your wounds. Heart chakra stones can create a flow of energy throughout your heart that carries into your whole body, spreading the frequency of balance, harmony, and unconditional love into everything you do.  How do you know if your heart chakra is open? You’ve experienced an open heart chakra in those moments when you feel so in love and filled up by life, opened up from the inside out, warm and fuzzy in your chest. A balanced heart chakra is loving, compassionate, patient, and kind. It forgives and accepts. It sees all sides of a situation without judgment.  An open heart chakra fosters and encourages love, understanding, and a strong connection between all of consciousness. The heart space, or Anahata chakra, is the place where we unite with another being, where we can see one another’s soul rather than their ego or mind. This is one of the many benefits of having an open heart chakra, in that it helps us see

Chakra Healing Doesn’t Have to be Complicated

Simple chakra healing for more balance in daily life When you feel off, imbalanced, or just not like yourself, chakra healing can be an incredible tool to help you come back to YOU. A chakra is an energy center within your body that receives, releases, moves, and processes energy throughout your whole system. When they are balanced and flowing, they are moving and processing energy in a healthy way, allowing you to receive joy and love and all the good stuff, and release excess emotional energy with more ease. When you have a chakra blockage, however, the energy can get stagnant, stuck, becoming heavy and burdensome, and affecting your physical body This can present itself as illness or injury, as deficiency or toxicity, as chronic or sudden onset pain. All the physical world is created first energetically, so when you address things on an energetic level, such as through chakra healing, you’re addressing their root cause. And when you can clear and release the energetic root cause of the blocks within you, you can transform how your energy is manifest into the world, creating more balance, peace, love, and true health! How do chakras get blocked in the first place?

The 8 Best Root Chakra Stones for Grounding and Clearing

Most of us in today’s society who are going from one building to another, wearing shoes, surrounded by electromagnetic fields from every direction, are thoroughly ungrounded. We are disconnected from the very earth beneath our feet, and this connection is what supports our root chakra. If your root chakra isn’t supported, you too will feel unsupported, insecure, and unsafe. You can’t have open, flowing energy in your 1st chakra if you’re not energetically grounded. So, that’s always the best place to start! A healing stone can be a wonderfully simple tool to help you ground your energy, and reconnect with the powerful, natural healing fields of our earth. We’re going to look at some of the best root chakra healing crystals to help you feel strong, supported, and unstoppable! What is the root chakra? The root chakra is the base of our energetic system, our 1st chakra, located at the base of the spine or cervix. It’s the base chakra that fuels and supports the entire chakra system, and is what connects us to this physical, material world we’re in.  Root chakra energy relates to all of our physical and material needs for survival. Think food, shelter, water, money, a

Crystal Singing Bowls Instill Balance and Harmony Through Vibration

Our bodies are made up of up to 60% water, creating a malleable ground for transformation on all fronts. At the microscopic level, crystalline structures serve as the blueprint communicating how our bodies will function daily. The ancients knew this information for a long time and used it to their advantage when working with the natural world to harness energy and promote healing. The words we speak to the music we listen to show a strong pull between the effects sound has on our physical, emotional, and energetic bodies. To this day, crystal singing bowls have become integrated into modern modalities to harmonize mental states, reconfigure physical ailments, and inspire a more profound presence.  Vibrational mechanisms behind singing bowls Quartz crystal is the central ingredient found in crystal singing bowls. This is due to their powerful ability to amplify energy. When struck, quartz serves as a conduit that magnifies thought, intention and directs brainwaves to an alpha or theta state-similar to what you might experience during meditation or deep slumber. As the vibrations travel through space and ultimately hit our bodies, the sound continues to move through our physical components, clearing out stagnant energies or blockages.  While the effects aren’t

The Rise of Spiritual Bypassing Presents the Opportunity to Access Deep Levels of Healing and Full Body Integration

We often turn to spiritual practices in times of difficulty and desperation, in the hopes of finding meaning, growth, healing, transcendence, and inner peace. Belief in God or gods is not a requirement for walking a spiritual path. Spirituality could be described as an intuitive experience of a deep and infinite, heartful, energetic connection and unity with all that is. Some people may consider “all that is” the omnipresence of the Creator or God. Others may call it Spirit, Source, Presence, the Sacred or Divine, and some may choose not to name it. When people are troubled they may also turn to psychology and psychotherapy because it deals with the mind, behavior, feelings, thoughts, and how we understand and make sense of the world. At times of struggle with external challenges and/or internal psychological issues, childhood psychological wounds, and failing mental health, we may experience painful emotions, cognitive dissonance (mental conflict as a result of beliefs, values, and behaviors not aligning), and a sense of isolation and disconnection that can feel torturous! At this point, instead of becoming intensely present, open-hearted, and welcoming to the opportunity to deal with the challenge and its underlying issues to invest in our psycho-spiritual

Are You Experiencing Any of These Spiritual Awakening Symptoms?

Let’s consider the words “spiritual” and “awakening,” as a helpful start to exploring the topic of spiritual awakening symptoms. Awakening is described as the action of waking up or rising from sleep.  The word “spirit” is from the Latin word which means to breathe, to blow, to inspire, and to live. Stop for a moment to consider these integral and potent words! Breath is what animates us. Are we truly living, and how might spirit guide and benefit us? “Death is not the greatest tragedy in life. The greatest tragedy is what dies inside us while we live. We need not fear death. We need fear only that we may exist without having sensed something of the possibilities that lie within human existence.” -Norman Cousins Origins of spiritual awakening terminology We often use “spirit” more generally to refer to intangible human aspects such as our thoughts or beliefs, or our mind, feelings, character, and soul. Some synonyms for “spiritual” include psychical, transcendent, mystical, numinous, and metaphysical. “Spiritual” can also be used in a religious context, about the sacred, holy spirit, divine, and devotion. “Spiritual awakening could be defined as inspired and super ordinary, quality living.” -Janet Wakelin Spiritual awakening may

The Debate on Spirituality vs Religion Begs Discernment and An Open Heart

It is difficult to believe spirituality and religion have been around for thousands of years—and there is no consensus on definitions of either. Could traditional religion have come about as a result of, and as, avenues for spiritual awakening? There are around 4300 religions, with religious and spiritual journeys as personal and diverse as the 7.9 billion people on the planet. Religions are socio-cultural practices to develop our relationship with the Divine and give meaning to life. Traditionally, spirituality was a religious process to lead us back to God, but in modern times spirituality refers to an experience of the Sacred, God, Presence, Source, or Higher Power, within or outside of organized religion. “Religion helps us create a space for God, but it is through spirituality that we are able to find God inside and outside of any defined spaces.”—Toyin Omofoye Where religious practice may be said to focus on doing, spiritual practice is focused on being as the intuitive experience of a deep heartfelt energetic connection and unity in presence – an experience of infinite love. “Spiritual but not religious” is a catchphrase used by a spiritual person who does not consider organized religion as the sole or most

A Sound Bath Can Have Healing Effects

“We are slowed down sound and light waves, a walking bundle of frequencies tuned into the cosmos. We are souls dressed up in sacred biochemical garments and our bodies are the instruments through which our souls play their music.”—Albert Einstein I have treasured memories of attending sound baths and sound journeys in wonderful locations south of Cape Town. Usually, sound baths are attended as a group in wonderful sunlit yoga studios, or domed locations to maximize acoustics. Private sessions are also available. One of my favorite venues, thanks to visiting world music producer, multi-instrumentalist, and sound medicine man, Kailash Kokopelli, was a long-disused underground water reservoir, in a mountainside overlooking scenic False Bay. We gathered in the afternoon sunshine and enthusiastically made our way through the fynbos paradise to the concealed opening in the earth. One by one, cautiously positioning ourselves on the five-meter vertical steel ladder, we descended with our yoga mats, blankets, cushions, and water bottles, into the cavern below. Welcomed by Kailash, and the fragrance of sage smudging and uplifting palo santo, our eyes embraced the swaying light from tealight candles placed at the foot of the countless pillars, gently revealing a now wondrous vast temple-like space. ‘The Triadic Heart of Siva’ Book Synopsis (Ch.6-7)

The Triadic Heart of Siva, the Kaula Tantricism of Abhinavagupta, discusses the concept of vibrations and how they are related to the Heart—and how we can utilize these functions of the Heart to achieve Brahman, or “the Ultimate Consciousness.” The Triadic Heart of Siva compares the Heart to that of an infinite ocean with finite, polarizing waves of consciousness, shedding light on how we can “catch a wave” to discover the omnipotence and bliss of our inner selves, guiding us on our return to Siva. Spanda or “slight movement” In Sanskrit, spanda loosely translates to “slight movement” and refers to the vibrations and pulses of the universe, which are able to manifest itself as vibrations that are present throughout the living world and within ourselves–in the Heart. In this section of chapter of 6, Abhinavagupta stresses the importance of what is called “self-referral,” or vimarsa, which is deemed to be an “essential characteristic of consciousness.” Self-referral allows us to double back: on our consciousness, allowing us to connect with our inner selves. This recognition of self-consciousness is what creates spanda within us—a vibration that resonates within the Heart and brings us closer to achieving the Ultimate Consciousness. Spanda also happens

‘The Upanishads’—Rediscovering the Self, an Excerpt

The Upanishads are a collection of texts detailing man’s journey to realizing the Self, and finding union with The Supreme Over Soul, Brahman—who others may also refer to as God. Much like the Bible, the Upanishads are considered sacred amongst the Hindu people. The word translates to “sit down,” referring to one mastering their connection with their true Self or Atman, which translates to “soul.” Translated by Eknath Easwaran, this excerpt of The Upanishads details what—and where—our true Self lies, and how we can discover it, and fine-tune it, to become one with Brahman. “The Wisdom of Shandilya” states that, if the universe was birthed from and and exists within Brahman, then we theoretically should be able to return to Brahman, attaining the ultimate level of spirituality and connection to the Self. What is “the Self,” though? Essentially, it is our soul—but there is also much more to it than that. The Self is the culmination of truth, light, and life. All of our desires and creations were given rise to by the Self, which resides right in the center of our being: our heart. That is not to say it is a physical part of ourselves, however; our physical

The Mysticism of Sound and Music

When we think of music, we often relate it to a combination of instruments and vocals, coming together to create either harmonies or dissonance. Depending on the genre, music can also invoke different emotions within us—certain songs may make us feel happy or excited, while others can make us feel sad. Our understanding of music does not often extend beyond these boundaries, which is what Hazrat Inayat Khan’s The Mysticism of Sound and Music challenges. What if our spirituality itself can be likened to that of harmony and symphony? Khan has a fresh take on this connection between music and our spiritual selves. Whatever we deem to bring us happiness, comfort, or profit are all compared to harmony, and, similarly, any negative feelings or things that bring on negative feelings are dissonance. “To attain spirituality is to realize that the whole universe is one symphony in which every individual is one note.”1 How can we better develop ourselves to be more in tune with the universe, our surroundings, and the very origin of sound that created it all? In “The Silent Life” chapter of The Mysticism of Sound and Music, Khan focuses on a very important part of the whole

Clairaudience – Can You Activate and Use it?

Clairaudience is “clear hearing,” or the psychic ability to receive intuitive messages through your thoughts or inner dialogue. This can be one of the hardest psychic abilities for people to access, even though it’s happening to you already every day, as you have to have incredible awareness of your thoughts and the ability to discern which thoughts are coming from you, which are coming from outside sources, and which ones are direct messages from Spirit or your intuition. But the good news is, like all psychic gifts, clairaudience is just another skill you can develop. And when you learn how to use your clairaudient abilities in daily life, it becomes a game-changer in how you move through the world, and how magical your everyday experience can become! How to know if you’re having a clairaudient experience Clairaudient people are simply using their extra-sensory perception to pick up on messages, words of advice, and answers to questions through the things they hear within their minds and the world around them. When you’re tuned into your clairaudience, or psychic hearing, you may hear messages in the wind, you may overhear a random conversation that totally applies to you, a song may come

Clairvoyance

5 Ways to Empower Your Clairvoyance

Clairvoyance means “clear seeing” and is one of your psychic abilities you already may be using if you’re someone who often visualizes things in your mind’s eye. It is the extrasensory perception of sight, an inner seeing, your ability to receive intuitive information without using your physical eyes. What does it mean to be clairvoyant? Being clairvoyant simply means you communicate with your intuition through your imagination. Society at large writes off the imagination as something that doesn’t exist in reality. “It’s just in your imagination,” they’ll tell you about the monsters under your bed as a kid, meaning, “Don’t worry, it’s not real.” Yet every single thing that has ever been created on Earth by a human first existed in the realm of imagination. Nothing has ever come to reality without first passing through the space of thought. Clairvoyance is an innate and intuitive ability Imagination is an actual realm of existence, another dimension perhaps, where you can play with and experience clairvoyance. Very skilled and practiced clairvoyants can tap into this second sight to see future events or have a prophetic vision, but clairvoyance is not only affiliated with precognition. It can simply be the state of receiving

Sacred Geometry Symbols 101 and Breathwork Meditation for Beginners

Merkaba or mer-ka-ba, one of the sacred geometry symbols, teaches us that in order to become our highest selves, we must activate our mind, body, and spirit. It is the true path to enlightenment, in our spiritual practice on our journey to spiritual awakening and reaching kundalini. Composed of two pyramids with one inverted atop the other, the sacred geometry pattern, along with each breath in a series of seventeen allows us to gain a deeper connection with the universe while attuning our chakras and engaging in spiritual practice.  Originating from one of the platonic solids, composed of five sets of shapes, the Merkaba pulls the body into another dimension by correlating breathwork, meditation, and energy in a triad that manifests love, universal oneness, and higher consciousness. What is sacred geometry? Sacred Geometry is the earth’s symbolism that highlights the numerical connection to everything living including people, crystals, nature, science, and energy.  Ancient religions around the world understood the importance of numbers and shapes that define consciousness as we know it. First seen in the Fibonacci spiral, sacred geometry symbols and patterns are all around us. Originating from the powerful symbol of Metatron’s Cube the geometric patterns consisting of the five platonic

Collective Heart Rate Variability Coherence Requires Intention

Over the years, standard interpersonal psycho-behavioral communication assumes that all information transferred between humans gets mediated through the five physical senses—touch, sight, hearing, smell, and taste. Each sense sends information to our brain to help us understand, perceive, react and communicate with the world around us. However, several studies have come to light in recent years suggesting that a transfer of nonphysical information can also occur over both shorter and longer distances. The importance of developing skills and behaviors to successfully connect, cooperate and collaborate with others is of great significance. For instance, when a top sports team is playing at its best, it seems as if all team players are communicating on a level beyond that of spoken words—orchestrated by a form of collective coherence.  The question is, therefore, can humans influence other humans without any physical contact? Can an individual’s good or bad energy rub off onto another person? Can people transmit instincts or feelings to others? If this is possible, how is this done?  Researchers like Dr. Steven M. Morris have been studying this possibility. However, this phenomenon would also be seen in studying people’s heart rate variability coherence (HRVC). First, let’s explore the meaning of heart rate

How to Deal with Being An Empath Instead of Feeling Drained

What is an empath and how do you know if you are one? Do you feel more deeply than others? Do you often wonder how to deal with being an empath? If so, here is the reminder that you are fully supported as you step into embodying this gift. Empaths are sensitive souls. They are highly attuned to the feelings and emotions of people around them. Some might think of sensitivity as a weakness. But don’t be misled; there are many benefits and some great strengths to being an empath. If you are an empath, you are a real blessing in the topsy-turvy world of today! Empaths value time spent alone. This doesn’t necessarily mean they are introverted. An empathetic person can also be an extrovert. But they will need more time to recharge their emotional batteries as being with people is draining.  Like an energetic sponge, empaths soak up the energies and feelings of those around them. This means that socializing for extended periods leaves empaths feeling exhausted. Taking time to cleanse and recharge your energy is a top priority. Empaths can be very attuned to their environment and what is happening with those around them. Conflict can be difficult

The Brain’s Algorithm Can Predict Insights on Human Behavior

The nervous system is composed of neurons which are specialized cells with the capacity to receive and transmit various electrical and chemical signals, creating a unique network. A neuron can be somewhat compared to an electrical cable, transmitting a signal from one place to the other. The brain is, by far, the most complex organ of the human body, essentially comprised of these neurons. This complex structure is the seat of intelligence, the interpreter of the senses, the initiator of body movement, and the controller of our behavior.  The brain is the source of all the qualities and defects that define one’s humanity. All actions involving the perception, thought and responsiveness of an individual are based on the electro-chemical activities within the brain. All activity and functions made by the nervous system—ranging from a simple motor reflex to more complex activities such as constructing a new memory or making a decision or deduction—require neurons to communicate with each other.  Deciphering the ABC’s of neuro-communication While humans use words and body language to communicate, neurons use electrical and chemical signals. The electrical signals can be defined as oscillations in voltages known as action potentials, capable of transmitting information from one neuron

Astonishing Correlation Between Memory and the Earth’s Magnetic Field

Over the years, it has been thought and established that all the information in our organism can be represented by two different forms present in the DNA and neurons. DNA is a long molecule that contains our unique genetic code and is stored in sequences of nucleic bases. In a simple way, DNA is like a recipe book that holds the instructions for making all the proteins in our bodies. Human DNA is 99.9% identical from person to person. Although 0.1% is not a significant difference, it actually represents millions of different locations within the genome where this variation can occur, resulting in diverse human forms, personalities, behaviors, qualities, and defects. On the other hand, this information is also found as temporal patterns of potentials of action within neurons. Neurons are considered unique cells that compose the neuronal system. Beyond being intricately branched, every second hundred of billions of electrical impulses called action potentials is transmitted in your body. Potentials of action are the principal mechanism of communication between neurons. They transport information through their timing and frequency. Moreover, these electrical impulses are responsible for transmitting the information, being the initiator of body movement, and controlling our behavior. It has

Your Crown Chakra is the Gate to Higher Consciousness

What does the crown chakra do? Your crown chakra is the gateway to pure consciousness. It’s the doorway to your spiritual connection and divine energy. It’s the realm of thought, ideas, imagination, and inspiration, and is where you experience awareness itself. The seventh chakra, located at the top of your head, your crown, is connected to your brain, central nervous system, and pineal gland, which regulates biological cycles. So its energy directly affects your entire physical body, while also acting as the doorway to your energy body. A balanced crown chakra allows you to interact with the pieces of you that are beyond your conscious awareness and physical senses, like your higher self, spirit guides, angels, and all the spiritual energy in the etheric realm. How do you know when your crown chakra is open? When you have a healthy crown chakra, one that’s open and receiving divine energy from your higher consciousness, you experience a sense of faith, trust, and understanding. You feel guided and in tune with the world around you. Your spiritual awareness is heightened and the insights, great ideas, and inspiration flow easily. An open crown chakra helps you feel more connected to everything and everyone.

Does the Heart Move the Blood, Or Is it the Other Way Around?

The heart is one of the most important organs in our body as well as one of our strongest muscles. It is composed of four different blood-filled areas: two upper chambers called the right and left atria and two lower chambers called the right and left ventricles. Between the atria and ventricles, there are valves that make sure blood flows in a single direction through the heart and therefore can be seen as “exits.” The relevance of the heart comes from its important role in pumping blood around our body, delivering oxygen and nutrients to cells, while removing waste products as well. Due to these exceptional functions, it is expected that diseases or conditions associated with this muscle can drastically decrease a person’s quality of life. In fact, heart conditions are among the most common types of disorders affecting people. In some countries, it is even the leading cause of death for all genders. Despite notable progress in new and improved medical treatments within the last years, morbidity and mortality associated with heart failure are still high. Between 70 to 80% of heart failure patients present a very low survival rate when compared with other diseases. It’s time to move

Psychopathy Hidden in the Corporate Setting Beckons the Rise of Conscious Leadership

‘‘Not all psychopaths are in prison. Some are in the Boardroom.’’ Hare, 2002. Psychopathy is characterized by features such as high intelligence, superficial charm, egocentricity and inability to love, lack of remorse or shame, impulsivity, a grand sense of self-worth, pathological lying, and manipulative behavior, among others. As a consequence, the image of the psychopath is that of a cold, heartless, and inhuman being. The term “psychopath” is generally associated with crime, thriller, and horror stories depicted in movies, TV shows, and books since it is quite easy to associate the features that define psychopathic behavior with what our society generally thinks of a villainous character. However, what most people do not know is that about 1% of the population may qualify as having psychopathic behaviors. That is around 80 million people! Does that mean that there are 80 million super-villains out there, plotting the end of the world? Probably not, but they are in our society, so what are they doing? Believe it or not, many psychopaths occupy positions of leadership and power, as these individuals tend to display traits that are widely associated with effective leadership, such as charisma, persuasiveness, and creativity. Psychopaths can often be very successful

The Sacred Weighing of the Heart in Ancient Egyptology

The heart is an organ often synonymous with words like love, compassion and acceptance. However, according to Egyptian mythology, when it comes to determining one’s fate in the afterlife, not all hearts weigh the same.  Ancient Egyptians believed the heart to be a sacred record-keeper, holding all deeds committed in a lifetime, representing the purity of an individual—or lack thereof. Whether or not a person would make it past the Underworld and into everlasting paradise solely depended on the results of the weighing of the heart ritual. Passing the scales of judgment Funerary customs in ancient Egypt were deeply feared and highly respected as it was said that a heavy heart riddled with sin would not continue in the afterlife. In the transitory stage of life and death, a ceremony would take place. The individual who passed away would be asked if they had committed any wrongdoings or broken any laws. Depending on their response, judged by the dead, the voice of truth would ring, and they’d be able to continue to the next stage—the weighing of the heart.  This was the most critical part of the ceremony since the results would dictate whether a person would cross into everlasting

Reclaiming Indigenous and Traditional Healing in Modern Health Care

What does it mean to be well? These days, people are thinking about illness and wellness more than ever. Unfortunately, capitalism tells us literally to buy into the wellness craze of juice cleanses, yoga retreats, and expensive bath products. Hidden under the guise of “self-care,” these trends claim to bring healing.  The Western-Medical Industrial Complex Paradigm of Healing Healing and wellness of the mind, body, and spirit are intricately connected, but the current healthcare model falls short of realizing this goal. Traditional healing in indigenous cultures worldwide draws no separation between the body, mind, and spirit. How and when did so many of us become disconnected from our ancestral roots of medicine?  In today’s world, a person may go to a primary care doctor for a yearly check-up, a cardiologist to run tests on a family history of heart disease, a nutritionist to find the proper diet, a personal trainer to stay in shape, a therapist to cope with mental and emotional health, and a life coach to figure out their business and professional goals. The list goes on and on. It’s no wonder so many of us feel overwhelmed and burned out. When did taking care of ourselves become

What is the sacral chakra? The sacral chakra, or Svadhisthana, is the second chakra governing sensuality and creativity. It governs the sexual organs and is commonly associated with the water element in fluidity and abundance. The sacral chakra is the seat of birthing life, in all of its forms. What does a blocked sacral chakra feel like? A blocked sacral chakra can feel like a lack of creative drive or impulse or low sexual energy. It can also feel like an imbalance in emotional energy which can cause excessive feelings to linger or get stuck. Can you have an overactive sacral chakra? Yes. An overactive chakra can feel like the floods of emotions have no end. Some examples of an overactive sacral chakra include heightened sensititivty in mood swings or unfinished creative projects, for example. How do you balance the sacral chakra with chakra stones? There are many ways to work with sacral chakra stones for balancing the inner system. A great way to tend to the sacral center is to place stones directly on the sacral chakra. This is a wonderful addition to reiki and meditation. Some of the best sacral chakra stones include Carnelian, Moonstone, and Citrine. What

Diving Into the Shadow Aspects of Emotional Intelligence

We’ve all heard the phrase “emotional intelligence” at some point in our lives. But what exactly is it? Is it significant? How can we identify whether we have emotional intelligence? What does it mean to have strong emotional intelligence? Can you increase your emotional intelligence? In the mid-1990s, psychologist Dan Goleman released a book that introduced us to the concept of emotional intelligence. The primary idea is that understanding and managing emotions improves our chances of success in life. What is emotional intelligence and why is it so important? Emotional intelligence is the ability to recognize, control, and eventually express one’s emotions. According to recent research, EQ (emotional intelligence quotient) is more significant than IQ (intellectual quotient) for success in the job, life, and overall health. By learning it, you will be able to be aware of not only your own emotions but also the emotions of those around you. The 4 Pillars of Emotional Intelligence  There are four pillars of Emotional Intelligence. Let’s take a look at each of them one by one.  Self-management With self-management, one can regulate impulsive sentiments, manage emotions in better ways, take initiative and adjust to the changing circumstances.  Self-awareness  Self-awareness is all about

The Dark Side of Meditation No One Seems to Be Talking About

Are you anxious all of the time? Are studies/work/personal matters keeping you awake at night? What are you doing to cure them? Medications, therapy, mindfulness, meditation? Is meditation spiking your anxiety? Yes, you read that right, many researchers have proven that the dark side of meditation can have devastating consequences—besides being a useful means to anxiety and stress. A Brief Recounting on the Origins of Meditation Meditation is a set of techniques designed to promote heightened awareness and focused attention. It is about reconnecting with all five senses of our body and the immediate experiences of life. Meditation is a consciousness-altering technique that has been shown to have numerous psychological benefits.  The word ‘meditation’ comes from the Latin root ‘meditatum,’ which means ‘to ponder.’ Meditation in the classical tradition has an acceptable application, which is the transformation of the person to realize oneself in a state of total transcendence and freedom from all the existential constraints. Meditation is a technique for resting the mind leading to peace, happiness, bliss, and self-realization. Meditation techniques are found in most, if not all, of the world’s major religious traditions.  The Buddhist monks used to meditate to achieve physical, emotional, and mental peace but

Quantum Physics and the Aftermath of the Age of Enlightenment

Until now, the natural sciences and humanities have seen themselves as competitors, with natural science being the clear winner in recent centuries. Today, the humanities imitate the natural sciences. A rational “exact method” should be used to measure human phenomena. In the beginning, religion ruled. It was replaced by rationality. Today the possibilities exists that humanities and natural sciences will join hands and form a new form of co-creation together. Enlightenment and Religion: From the Religious Taboo of Dissection to Genetic Manipulation Today we face a lot of negative ramifications from mankind’s drive for research and change: Nuclear weapons, genetic manipulation, RFID-chipping, digital surveillance, etc. In the Middle Ages, however, it was the opposite: religious dogma. This meant that nothing was allowed to be questioned and everything was to be believed. The body was not allowed to be dissected. Touching the body and questioning the “God-given” order was considered taboo and sinful. One was supposed to believe the given knowledge, but not know. Religion is obsolete for enlightenment and science. This is a re-evaluation of all values. The Age of Enlightenment challenged this. Due to the triumph of the enlightenment, transcendence, the immaterial, has been dismissed as an illusion. Because

After Emotional Trauma You Can Still Have A Good Life

We frequently use the term “trauma” to describe a traumatic event or experience, such as sexual assault or a devastating natural disaster. It’s critical to distinguish between more common experiences that cause intense stress and anxiety and traumatic events that are incomprehensible to us and can have a significant, long-term impact on our quality of life and well-being. Traumatic events and experiences can occur in an instant and be unexpected and shocking, or they can develop more slowly over time, such as the toll of long-term abuse or neglect. In either case, trauma is distinguishable by how it affects our ability to function in daily life and how it shakes foundational beliefs and shapes our sense of safety in the world around us. Trauma can make life feel overwhelming and out of control. As difficult as it can be, it is critical to remember that with the right support and coping strategies, we can overcome this pain and its impact on our lives. There Are 3 Types of Traumas and Causes  Depending on the event or experience that caused it, you may experience trauma in a variety of ways. 1. Emotional Trauma  Emotional trauma occurs as a result of events

The Depth Behind the Science of the Soul, As Told By Plato

Nowadays, science is almost exclusively equated with natural science. This was not always the case. Rather, it is a relatively recent phenomenon that natural science achieved its triumph with the so-called Enlightenment of the 18th century. When we talk about science today, we usually only mean the measuring, dissecting, proving, and examining of objects that we understand to be outside of ourselves. Understanding and measuring the world through the material senses is a relatively new phenomenon. Plato’s science suggests the unfolding conjunction between spiritual and natural science. In Plato’s understanding of science, the attempt to know the world with the material senses was the level of knowledge of the cave dwellers, all those people who could not yet see the light of knowledge (in the East: enlightenment). Accordingly, the material senses are blinded and not suitable to recognize the essence of things. With the help of spiritual and physical exercises, people tried to transcend the merely physical consciousness even in ancient times. Unfortunately, the line of practice has broken off and we now import meditative practices, yoga, tai chi etc. from the East, where this knowledge has been passed down through the centuries. The intellect, which our culture today pays

12 Translations for Obscure Emotions We Have All Experienced

There are many lovely words that can precisely express our feelings (ie. hangry comes to mind). However, there are many other emotions that are difficult to express as we have a fairly limited emotional vocabulary in English. When you look at other languages, you’ll notice that they have a considerably larger vocabulary of terms to represent their emotions and mental health. So, if I tell you, “I’m feeling nervous,” it might mean anything from common or garden anxiety to anxiety disorder. One is a medical problem, while the other is not. Have you ever had a feeling you couldn’t quite articulate? Take a look at these wonderful terms for complex emotions from around the world, and see if you can use any of them. 1. Voorpret  Language: Dutch  Rough translation: Anticipation This is the term for the tremendous feeling of exhilaration and anticipation that occurs just before something fun begins. It’s how you feel when you’re getting ready for a party and can’t stop dancing. It’s how you feel when you pack for a trip you’ve always wanted to take. It’s not just the anticipation of something enjoyable; it’s the actual pleasure you derive from that expectation. It’s voorpret! 2. Myötähäpeä

The ABC’s of Feeling: Why Emotions Must Be Held to the Same Caliber As Logic

Our society takes it for granted that we go to school for at least nine years to train our minds. We realize that we cannot think just because there is a brain in our head, but that we have the capacity to do so—but this has to be trained. So what makes us think that we can feel naturally without training the emotional side? Soul, emotion and feeling For some people it is not possible to feel their emotions. They usually feel nothing or are skilled at repressing of unwanted emotions. How could they know better, because this is exactly what our society “teaches”—to repress feelings and emotions. This unconscious “teaching” can be attributed to patriarchal religious systems as well as spiritual teachings. For the enlightenment or salvation emotions and feelings were considered for a long time as “disturbing” as hindering and depressing. Now the mistake must not be made to blame the evil “patriarchy” for everything. Patriarchy is one-sided, not wrong, just like matriarchy. What is at stake at this time is to train the feeling and to bring it into a cynical marriage with the thinking in order to become an integrated spirit-soul human being. Spirit, mind and

Emotional & Spiritual Intelligence Are Critical For Mental Health

Mental health refers to how people think, feel, and act when confronted with life’s challenges. It has an impact on how we deal with stress, interact with others, and make decisions. Individuals’ mental health has an impact on how they view themselves, their life, and the people in their lives. Mental health, like physical health, is crucial at all stages of life.  In addition, it has received more attention in the popular news and scholarly study. Mental health is undeniably on the rise, and it may soon reach levels that strain the system. Whilst there has been much work in the area of mental health, research is required on the link between mental health, spiritual intelligence, and emotional intelligence.  A research study conducted in the Gorgan City, North of Iran has explored the link between spiritual intelligence, emotional intelligence, and mental health. The data was collected from 247 high school students including 124 males and 123 females in the age range of 14-17. This study found out that spiritual intelligence and emotional intelligence can predict mental health. This is why spiritual intelligence and emotional intelligence should be integrated into schools.  5 Ways Cultivating Emotional Intelligence Influences Mental Health Mental health

The new heart thought and the rediscovered center of man The new heart thinking is based on the center of man, on his heart region, which is not accessible to the adversary powers, but only to the Christ, the macrocosmic I, which is essentially one with the real I of man. “People who had been an inspired thought-being in the previous earth life, that is, who had been Michael-servants, felt urged to such voluntary Michael-community when they came back to earth life at the end of the nineteenth century. They now regarded their old thought-inspirer as the sage in the higher thought-being. Whoever knows how to pay attention to such things could know what a turnaround took place in the last third of the nineteenth century with regard to the thought life of man. Before, man could only feel how thoughts were formed out of his being; from the indicated period on, he can rise above his being; he can direct the sense into the spiritual; there Michael meets him, and he proves to be an ancient relative of all thought-weaving. He frees the thoughts from the realm of the head; he clears the way for them to the heart;

Functional Health Expert, Niki Gratix, Shares Techniques to Reverse Emotional Trauma and How It Impacts Your Experience

We can get into how we reverse emotional trauma or the impact of it. I’ve got four or five steps that I recommend to people.  Step one You can reverse the physical impact of trauma, you can change the epigenetics and reverse the physical impact through many of the naturopathic principles, healthy diet, and lifestyle principles.

My intention was that early experiences may be part of what they need help with and what they’re dealing with today. Whatever they do is meaningful.

However, it wasn’t until after college where the reiki energy knocked on my door, yet again, with a loud invitation to receive my level one attunement. Moreover, it was a guided thrust forward to step into this modality, learn about its history, and practice consistently. Since then, reiki has been a great ally in cultivating and opening up my energetic channels to receive life force energy and direct it through my body.  What is reiki? Aside from my personal experiences, working on myself, and participating in reiki shares, its rich history showcases an array of healing benefits. Some of these include clearing emotional blockages, healing physical ailments, and working with subtle forces for guidance that can help heal the planet.

How to Sink Into the Root Chakra for Opening and Grounding

Your root chakra is vitally important. It’s what connects you to your body, the Earth, and to this moment. It’s what brings you home to right here and now. Your root chakra is the base of your entire chakra system, and if it’s not open and flowing, it will affect every other one of your chakras. Below, you’ll learn a simple daily meditation you can do for root chakra healing to help you feel grounded, present and safe in your body, no matter where you are, or what’s going on in your life. But first, let’s get more familiar with our remarkable, beautiful root chakra! Where is the root chakra located? The root chakra lies at the base of your central channel in the pelvic floor, right between your legs. Although it is perceptual and energetic, I do not feel the root chakra is at the base of the spine, as most chakra texts will tell you. I’ve never felt any sensations or had any experience with my root chakra opening at the end of my tailbone, and the most ancient tantric yoga texts which are the first to refer to a chakra system, place the root chakra in the

10 Essential Chakra Crystals for Healing Yourself

Crystals are one of my favorite energetic tools! Whether I’m doing a chakra crystal healing session with a client, using them in my personal energy work practices, making chakra stone elixirs, wearing crystal jewelry, or stuffing gemstones in my bra, I know crystals to be much more than just woo-woo fascinations that offer a placebo effect of good vibes. Crystal healing is one of the most powerful forces this Earth has given us. We just haven’t yet figured out (or more likely have forgotten) how amazing they truly are. But when you start to work with crystals to bring balance to your chakras, you realize the depth of magic and true healing they offer. So, if you’re ready to dive into the subtle realm of chakra crystals, I’m sharing 10 must-have crystals to bring healing to your whole chakra system. What are chakra crystals? Chakra crystals are simply crystals with healing properties that have a beneficial effect on your chakras, or the energy system within your body.  They work with your chakras to help them release blockages and come back into their innate state of balance. Explore Chakra Balancing for a Healthy & Beautiful Life

Chakra blockages or chakra alignments are both popular terms in the spiritual field nowadays.

After all, the heart is a sense organ. And even if we do not have directly in our consciousness that which is the sensory activity of the heart, even if it belongs to the subconscious sensory activities,

More and more today are those people who begin to go out of the original feeling and reflect on the things into whi
